Trip to the Zoo

A few weekends ago, we traveled to Columbia to take Ella Rae to the zoo.
I wouldn't suggest the zoo in June, but other than the heat we had fun!!
Gigi and I were traveling upstate for a wedding shower anyways, so Granddaddy and Kelly joined us and we went to the zoo in the morning before the shower.
O'ma and Uncle Ryan also came down to join us!

She got a good view of the gorillas from Granddaddy's shoulders

Ella got up close and personal with a turtle (statue)

The monkey's were hollering a lot and scared Ella Rae a little

She also got to ride a pony!

Granddaddy was so proud!

Ella Rae got to feed some goats
 






And a giraffe!

She even got to ride on the carousel!

We really enjoyed our time at the Riverbanks Zoo!

Today, November 17, is Prematurity Awareness Day! This cause is near and dear to my heart because our sweet Ella Rae was born 6 weeks premature. We were definitely on the upper side of the 'premature spectrum' so to speak, as many babies are born waaay earlier. We did, however, spend 14 days in the NICU after Ella's birth. It was a whirlwind to say the least. Did you know that 1 out of 8 babies are born premature? And the amount of premature births has risen 30% since 1981. That means too many babies are coming early and too many parents have to endure the unknown of their child being born prematurely. Today is a day to fight for those babies and families. He is only 17, but he's got a wonderful heart and donates a lot of money and time to many different charities and organizations. We are definitely fans! And a sweet picture of my girl, just for fun!!
